The request form on this website asks for your name, an email address or phone number, the type of matter, whether you prefer the office or video, an optional note and a tick confirming you read this notice. The server records the time of sending. If you become a client, the file also holds the documents you give us, such as a lease, payslips or invoices, and the identity details we must check under the Act of 18 September 2017 on the prevention of money laundering.
We use a request only to answer it and plan a first meeting (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR, steps before a contract). Client data is processed to perform the engagement (Article 6(1)(b)), to meet legal duties such as identity checks and bookkeeping (Article 6(1)(c)) and to defend our own legal position if a dispute arises (Article 6(1)(f)). Everything you tell us is covered by professional secrecy under Article 458 of the Criminal Code.
Nobody buys or receives your data for marketing. Our web host and email provider process it on our instructions. Courts, bailiffs, translators and the other side's lawyer receive what a case requires, and only in that case.
A request that does not lead to an engagement is deleted after 12 months. Client files are kept for five years after the matter ends, the period set by Article 2276bis of the former Civil Code, and accounting records for seven years.
You can ask for access, correction, erasure, restriction, portability, or object to processing based on legitimate interest. Write to [email protected] and we answer within one month. You can also complain to the Data Protection Authority, Drukpersstraat 35, 1000 Brussels. We do not transfer data outside the European Economic Area and make no automated decisions about you.
